How to Stay on Track with Your Fitness Goals

fitnessgoals

Things may look a bit different right now, but one thing keeping me sane are my workouts. Whether I’m working out at a gym or at home, moving my body makes all the difference not only physically but mentally. Here are my top 5 tips to stay on track with your fitness goals. Plus, a few of my favorite local gyms to try!

  1. Write Down Your Goals - There is power in writing down your goals. I use this Passion Planner to write down all of my goals from weekly short term goals, to long term one and five year goals. Rachel Hollis recommends goal setting by writing them down as if they have already happened. Love that idea! Either way, get to writing with pen and paper and take a moment at the end of each week to reflect on those goals, and readjust for the following week.

  2. Plan your Weekly Workouts - Each Sunday I plan out my workouts for the week ahead. Just as I plan out any other appt I have for meetings, the dentist, dinner dates with girlfriends etc… my workouts are an appt with myself that I take very seriously. If I make a commitment to myself, I need to stay just as committed as I would if the appt were with someone else.

  3. Mix it Up - I make my workouts FUN! Workouts don’t need to be boring and be the same thing over, and over. For example, I may book a spin class Monday morning, plan for a Tuesday morning run, book a Wednesday evening bootcamp, plan for a Thursday morning long walk, maybe a yoga class on Saturday morning, etc. And, even within each “bootcamp” the workouts change daily so it’s a different experience each and every time. Do whatever you love, the goal is to move your body. See my list below for local gyms I recommend, let them know I sent you and try a drop-in class!

  4. Accountability Partner - We all know it’s easier to stay accountable when we have someone depending on us to show up. Invite a girlfriend to come workout with you. Instead of grabbing drinks or meeting for lunch, you can meet for a workout class or grab your coffee and go for a long walk. If you’re local, come workout with me. Working out with a friend makes it SO MUCH BETTER!

  5. Find Your Vibe - Everyone enjoys a different vibe when working out. You may enjoy a smaller studio setting, a “get in, get out” gym, or a gym that thrives on a community. There’s no right or wrong here it’s wherever you feel the most comfortable, motivated, and ultimately want to come back to. I’m realizing how much I love a group/community workout setting because there’s nothing better to me than being surrounded by a group of BADASS women!!
